Top 5 things to do in KL area

There are many beautiful things to see or places to explore around us but we (or probably just me) tend to neglect them. All I wanted was to go faraway lands, to visit places all over the world, but not the place where I was born and raised - Kuala Lumpur. (Not just yet!) I was thinking that I could explore the city I live in anytime, any day, and I DID! I'm glad I did spend my weekends or holidays worthwhile.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia with a multicultural community and magnificent skyscrapers. It has the most iconic landmark, the Petronas twin towers (KLCC) and many more places to be included in your itinerary. Out of the places I've visited, here are my top picks!

Let's see what are the top 5 things to do in the KL area while you're here for a day trip or vacation.

Visit the iconic landmarks: Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC) and Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower)

Petronas Twin Towers were once the tallest building occupied by the associate and multinational companies in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, also known for upscale fashion shopping mall. This is one of the shopping malls I visited the most when I was a kid as there is a huge park right in front of the mall.

Along with Petronas Twin Towers, you'll see this spindle-like apex KL tower lighting up at night. Indulge in the revolving atmosphere 360 restaurants and enjoy the spectacular city views. There is a visitor deck open to the public, the best time to visit is around the evening when the sun is setting.

Glimpse into culturally enriching Petaling Streets, also known as Chinatown

If you're good at bargaining, here's where you can make use of your negotiation skills. Haha! Petaling street is one of the most famous tourist spots in Malaysia. There are many shops or stalls selling imitation goods and dirt-cheap products. Spend half a day strolling around the old town immersed in Oriental cultures, enjoy the Chinese delicacies, look out for beautiful street art and explore the Chinese temples.

Spend a day in Lake Gardens

There are plenty of things you can explore here such as enjoying the lush greenery of the botanical park, visiting Orchid and Hibiscus Gardens, Bird Park, and Butterfly Park. Besides, learn the histories of Malaysia in the Muzium Negara and the National Monument. Other than that, get to know all about science & astronomy in the National Planetarium.

Explore one of the religious hotspots that you cannot miss

Challenge yourself, how fast are you able to climb all the way up to the top? 272 steps!

Batu Caves, it's a Hindu shrine built inside a series of caves in a limestone hill watched over by a huge golden statue. The steps were upgraded a few years ago and it's now the most colorful place you will ever visit in KL. You get to enjoy watching monkeys too as there are many monkeys around.

A chill night out or go for a shopping spree at Bukit Bintang

Whether you're a morning person or a night owl, you must visit Bukit Bintang. Here you'll see the busy roads and huge crowds. This is one of the popular tourist spots as well. A few shopping malls within walking distance for you to shop till drop. A wide variety of bars and clubs are available as well to party from dusk till dawn.
