【KUALA LUMPUR】HIDDEN BAR IN KL: SUZIE WONG BAR

A bar is hidden away in the back basement of Wisma Lim Foo Yong, one of the KL's oldest commercial buildings. The building looks old BUT this bar was unexpectedly nice!

A girl leads us once we came out from the lift. Honestly, I wouldn't know if there's no one there to show us the way.

There's a small old-school Hong Kong style stall with wooden table and bench selling wan tan mee before entering the bar. There are two sections! A baroque style English decor lounge with pretty Cheshire couches and statues makes me fall for it. It's quiet and less smoke, suitable for those who love having a business talk while enjoying the wine or cocktails.

Price for cocktails/liquors is much cheaper during happy hour. We were there just in time. Two more minutes to 9 pm.

Happy hours: 4pm-9pm

Mee Ling, Robert Lomax, Smoked Old Fashioned, Suzie Wong

Mee Ling, it's all about ginger. Gotta slowly get used to the taste. None of us like Robert Lomax. It looks nice but the taste was just too.....unacceptable. Smoked old fashioned was fine, normal whiskey perhaps?  Drinking Suzie Wong as if you're drinking pure coconut juice with a little of liquor in it. Surprisingly it's the most acceptable drink of all.

Robert Lomax was served under a domed glass cover with a dimly lit plate

Another section brings the sense of classic orient and classic Hong Kong glamour which is more happening. The dazzling birdcages chandelier caught my attention. It's beautiful! We brought our cocktails along. There are different performances such as live bands, acoustic acts, and varieties of live performance each day, check out Suzie Wong Bar KL to know what's on stage.

Classic oriented vibes

The performance started at 10 pm. The live bands of the day were Nutselar Lim and the music theme was "pop". It might be jazz, r&b, and etc. This band was really good, it gave me goosebumps. As for the next performance was an old school dance.

This is so different from a typical bar or lounge with DJ or live bands music.DJ took over at 12.30am. The mood of the crowd was literally from enjoying the music to high and back to the calm stage. It felt like I was in the 50s era. The feel of old Shanghai. Amazing!
